Export

There is one PDF constructor: exportPdf in src/export/pdf/export-pdf.ts (PdfWriter → buildPdfPages → assemblePdf). No DOM.

Same document + data + assets + clock → same bytes. Do not layout PDF in the editor with a second paginator.

ODT/DOCX still go through exportDocument (template pass, then those writers). Visual parity vs PDF is weaker (Roadmap, matrix).

Editor page chrome (setPagePreview) uses pdfPageMetrics / buildPdfPages for paper size and page count. It is not a second PDF engine. The pixel-true preview is the previewPdf iframe.

Pipeline (PDF)

PortableDocument → validate → renderTemplate → PdfWriter (buildPdfPages + images + assemble)

Page size and margins: document.page (same MediaBox). Unmarked text uses Standard-14 Helvetica + Symbol. The four document faces Velo Sans, Velo Serif, Velo Mono, Velo Display (DOCUMENT_FONTS) share one generated TTF between editor @font-face and PDF /FontFile2. Marks color, fontSizePt, bold/italic, underline/strike, and highlight paint in the content stream. Images: PNG downscale / JPEG passthrough.

Document fonts: createEditor injects ensureDocumentFonts. commands.setFontFamily("Velo Serif") (aliases: sans-serif, serif, monospace, cursive) selects a face that PDF embeds. Unknown families still fall back to Helvetica (pdf-font-family-ignored). ODT/DOCX keep the family name for the host app to resolve.

CI compares a raster of page 1 (pdftoppm, pnpm run test:pdf-pages) against tests/visual/pdf-pages/. That tool is not a client dependency.

Internal ZipWriter: CRC-32, local headers, central directory, EOCD. STORE required; DEFLATE optional (deflate.ts).
